Here are a couple pointers when generating an opt-in email list.
- Make sure the recipient that's filling out your form knows exactly what they're signing up for.
- Tell them somewhere on the form that they can opt-out of your email list at any time.
- Keep your form short and sweet. People don't like filling out a crazy amount of fields. Try only capturing the essential data to start off with (i.e., First Name, Email). You can always contact them later on and request more personal information from them.
- Don't add CAPTCHA's to your forms - statistics show that over 50% of people that accidently get the captcha wrong the first time will not attempt to re-submit the form a second time.
- Make sure to have an auto-responder email the recipient and confirm that they signed up for your list.
A decent signup page will convert at around 20%. - and following the simple steps listed above can help your form convert even more.
